You know those seasons where you’re desperate for something to change? You pray, but heaven seems silent. You work hard, but nothing moves. As the waiting drags on, hope fades.

Nineteenth century American journalist and abolitionist Jane Grey Swisshelm was mocked, silenced, even threatened for her faith-fuelled stand against slavery and injustice. Yet she refused to give up.

Instead, she waited with hope in God’s justice, writing that “truth is eternal, and God will vindicate His own.” Out of years of struggle came a voice that helped shift public opinion toward freedom.

Alright, that was her situation back then. What about us, here and now? How can we wait with hope? Yesterday, we saw in Psalm 27:4 how delighting ourselves in the Lord transforms our desires; our whole outlook on life, in fact. That’s the key – yearning for God Himself. And today, King David urges us even further, writing:

Psalm 27:14 Wait for the Lord’s help. Be strong and brave, and wait for the Lord’s help.

The Hebrew word for wait isn’t merely about killing time, chewing your fingernails in worry. It means waiting with hope – leaning forward in expectation, convinced that God’s help is coming.

Surrounded by his enemies David learned that kind of hope, because it turns out to be the natural outflow of a deep yearning for God Himself. David could still trust that God would act – and God did.

And can I tell you, in Christ, that hope shines brightest. The cross looked dark, but resurrection was coming. Waiting with hope in Jesus is never wasted, because He is faithful.

So if you’re in God’s waiting room right now, don’t despair. Yearn for God Himself. Keep leaning into Jesus. That’s the place from which His courage, His hope will flow. His help is coming – right on time.

That’s God’s Word. Fresh … for you … today.
