Last week, a simple question about hobbies on resumes opened up something more revealing than expected on the Drive show.

The idea was that hobbies can say a lot about who someone is and how they operate.

Caller Jennifer was asked what three hobbies she’d include: motorbike racing, cooking and music. One of them stood out and no, she doesn’t watch…She races herself.

That detail alone shifted the conversation. It suggested to Shaylee and Rob that Jennifer is someone who is all or nothing, comfortable taking risks rather than avoiding them, competitive and self-motivated.

And they were right!

A clearer picture formed: someone who likely recharges alone, pushes themselves, and who isn’t afraid of intensity or challenge.

Jennifer then shared what she does for work. She’s a speech pathologist and runs her own clinic…Rob’s dream job (if he wasn’t on the radio, of course)

The conversation made one thing clear: even small details like a hobby can offer real insight into how someone thinks and works in the world.

So next time you’re writing a resume or reading one, don’t just look at the job titles. Look at the hobbies too! They might tell you more than you expect.

What’s one hobby on your resume that actually says something about you?
