This morning on 89.9 TheLight, Casey spoke with parenting expert Sharon Witt about how parents can support children after the distressing news from Bondi.

Sharon encouraged parents to limit media exposure, especially rolling news and graphic footage, which can overwhelm young minds. When children ask questions, keep answers simple and age appropriate, offering reassurance without unnecessary detail.

She also reminded parents to model calm, as children take emotional cues from adults. For teens, open conversations about switching off and protecting their minds are key.

Finally, Sharon pointed us toward hope. In times of tragedy, she encouraged families to look for the helpers – the acts of bravery and kindness that remind us our communities are still good.

Sometimes, being present, calm, and reassuring is exactly what our kids need most.
