Lucy had grabbed a chocolate bar from Woolies, one of those “treat yourself” moments that feels completely harmless. So naturally… she took a bite.
Fifteen seconds later, everything changed.
She bolted back to her desk, scanning the ingredients and there it was. Sunflower seeds.
Her random, inconvenient allergy.
Cue chaos.
Water, immediately followed by Telfast. Her tongue started going numb, breathing got tight, and suddenly this wasn’t a “huh, that’s annoying” situation. This was a “I might actually be in trouble” situation. Kel wanted to take her to ER, but Lucy wanted to wait a moment…
She doubled over, head on the desk. Then she turned towards the bin. Trying not to vomit.
And then… timing did its thing.
In walks Michael Paynter to the Radio Station, one of Lucy’s favourite singers. Sure, she’s known him for 20 years pre-fame, but still.
Then Lucy hears someone say, “Oh, Lucy’s here, would you like to say hello….” As she’s mid almost-throwing-up into a bin.
So naturally… she stands up in that split second, walks over and says hi. Lucy holds it together through sheer force of will… and antihistamines.
Because if you’re going to be in mild anaphylactic shock, you may as well get a quasi-adrenaline shot by catching up with someone’s who you’ve called ‘the greatest singer in Australia’.
So, what’s your emergency style: go to hospital… or push through and not cause a fuss?
