The fire alarm wasn’t subtle.

It started as the loudest noise imaginable, echoing through what Lucy and Kel thought was just their hotel room. Annoying? Yes. Urgent? Not immediately clear.

So naturally… they stayed in bed for a bit.
But when the alarm didn’t stop, Lucy did what any sensible person would do, she went to investigate. The hallway told a very different story. People were out, elevators were shut down, and suddenly this wasn’t just a minor inconvenience. This was a get out now situation.
They were twenty floors up. Not ideal.
What happened next was a choice. Not the right choice, but a choice. Instead of heading straight for the stairs, they got dressed.
Kel, by his own admission, doesn’t sleep in pyjamas. And while a fire evacuation is stressful enough, adding that into the mix felt like unnecessary trauma for everyone involved. So, priorities.
Meanwhile, Lucy made a different call. Panic-adjacent, but efficient. She bolted. Twenty flights of stairs. Gone. Kel? Still shuffling.
Lucy didn’t push anyone over, but let’s just say she was operating at a pace that suggested survival was a solo sport.
So, what’s your emergency style: calm and cautious… or every-person-for-themselves sprint mode?
