Andrew Chisholm, Senior Minister of CityLife Church, unpacks Psalm 56 as a deeply honest psalm of lament — a prayer written by David in a moment of fear, pressure, and vulnerability.
Psalm 56 gives language to moments when fear feels overwhelming. Surrounded by enemies and uncertainty, David does not suppress his anxiety but brings it honestly before God: “When I am afraid, I put my trust in You” (Ps 56:3). Andrew highlights that lament is not the opposite of faith, but an expression of faith—a movement from fear toward trust, grounded in the confidence that “God is for me” (v.9).
